THE MENACE OF NUTRITION: PREVALENT OCCURRENCE OF MARASMUS AS A RESULT OF MALNUTRITION IN NIGERIA

This assignment is in 3 parts – designed to test separate aspects of your understanding of the issues surrounding nutrition in health and disease and their application into a real world situation.

TOPIC- THE MENACE OF NUTRITION: PREVALENT OCCURRENCE OF MARASMUS AS A RESULT OF MALNUTRITION IN NIGERIA.
Research choice issue will require a critical review in respect to matters such as the underpinning scientific evidence, epidemiology – which should must be focused on a current action to address the issue, actions taken elsewhere etc.
Then, you should place yourself in the position of a scientific official in a ministry of health and prepare the following documents.

1. Two page briefing (400words) of the key facts on your chosen issue for the minister of Health to enable a response to the following media question. ( Use bullet point format)
“There is mounting public concern about the relationship between diet and the prevalence of marasmus as a result of malnutrition in Nigeria – what is your comment on this matter?”
This element test ability to distill complete complex information into a succinct document. The Minister will be a quick –witted person but may have no professional experience in matters of the issue.

2. The Minister will undoubtedly receive the supplementary question.

What action will the Government be taking?

Thus, you need to provide the Minister with at least one policy option for action (In reality officials would be asked for several policy options

Summarize your suggestion in no more than 400 words giving justification. Note or bullet point format is appropriate here

3. The above documents should be supported by a short epidemiology and etiology based scientific review of the evidence relating to the chosen issue. This should be no more than 2000 words and be intended to provide substantive evidence in case the Minister or his/her close officials should need these.
Item 3 should be fully referenced.
Item 1 and 2 do not need references for all points- but remember that the Minister needs to sound authoritative.
