research review

Structure:
The assessment falls into two main parts:
1. The clinical question and search strategy
2. Critical appraisal and plan of implementation of findings

The clinical question and search strategy: Part A
Part A
should explain the methodology of your review that includes your PICO, facet analysis, search plan and databases used to identify a relevant paper to answer your question.

PLEASE NOTE
For this exercise, I have chosen this question , so please work with this question:
ARE BABIES WHO ARE EXCLUSIVELY BREASTFED IN THE FIRST SIX MONTHS AS OPPOSED TO FORMULA FED, LESS PRONE TO OBESITY? You can rephrase

Method (about 700 words):
You must then demonstrate how your question has been developed through this information.

It is important that the question is properly structured. The population, intervention, counter-intervention and outcome should be used in order to give clarity to the question, with reference to the appropriate literature. The PICO framework should be discussed with the use of keyword examples for your question.

You are encouraged to include a similar table to the one provided here to demonstrate the use of PICO framework.

Table 1: PICO Analysis
Population Intervention Counter-intervention Outcome
Babies breastfeeding formula feed obesity

With P- babies
I – breastfeeding
C- formula feed
O- obesity

Finally give the precise question after your PICO table. (See question above)

Note: Please always number and name your tables or figures provided in the text.
Discuss your facet analysis. This should include the importance of developing a facet analysis and the process you followed to develop your own facet analysis (include one or two examples of keywords that you used).

Facet analysis- key words suggestions:
P- babies- infant, pediatric
I- breastfeeding- lactation
C- formula feed- bottle feed
O- obesity- overweight etc

Briefly state which databases you have used and why. As a minimum you should use three databases.EMBASE, MEDLINE-MATERNAL AND INFANT and CINAHL.
Please include aA copy of the search history from the databases you identified your research paper.

Demonstrate how the facet analysis was translated into a search strategy for these databases (i.e. index and free text terms you used, truncations and wildcards – don’t forget to define these terms, with reference to appropriate literature).
The use of Boolean operators should be demonstrated and discussed. Specify the limitations to the coverage of the search (e.g. language, study design etc.) if you have used any.

Remember to support your discussion of your search plan with reference to the literature and demonstrate the use of different tools through giving examples from your search strategy.

You are encouraged to use a similar table to the one below to present your facet analysis and search plan:

Table 2: Facet analysis and search plan
Population Intervention Counter-intervention Outcome Facet Analysis

The facet analysis table should be included in the body of your work and not appended. Please note that you do not need to include a table for each database search. Only use one table demonstrating your search plan.

At the end of the section include a table indicating the overall results from your three databases searches. E.g. how many papers you identified in each database? How many where relevant to answer the question? What type of studies did relevant papers employed?

Relevant article types to conside:
Randomised control trials
Cohort studies
Research papers
