Hip Hop Analysis

This video was shot in an American city that is predominantly black in terms of demographics. The video features two American hiphop artistes articulating their concerns, messages, and the hip hop culture in general. At various points in the video the two rappers are shown showcasing the essense of hip hop in terms of their dressing style, gestures, and the tropes they enlist in their music. One of the artistes has his whole body covered with tatoes of various images of different meanings. The other artiste dorns the flashy hip hop T-Shirt and shows off what appears to be a golden chain. The hip hop culture, like any other culture, is represented, in this video, in its material and non-material culture. The  material aspect, as represented by the trendy dresscode is supposed to highlight the element of affluence that is naturally associated with hip hop. Another distinguishing element of this culture is the music. The lyrics of the song capture the cadences of the hip hop culture are represented by the youthful black population. Another striking feature of this film is the images of young women who are skimpily dressed and dancing in sexually suggestive moves. This moves are usually enlisted to evoke the aspect of sexual liberty, which is usually advocated in the discourses of freedom particularly hip hop. The black youth in the United States packages himself of herself as an individual beyond the usuall retrictions that are to be found in the world of his white equivalent. Hip hop represents an aspect of generational change. The black people in the United States are witnessing the abandon of care from a generation that has grown increasingly dissilusioned with the social system that increasingly subjugates them as a result of their color.
