Emerging Global Health Issues
In this unit, you will examine global trends and directions for health promotion and disease prevention, including malnutrition, emerging infections, violence, terrorism, and natural disasters.
Current emerging health care reform efforts pose significant challenges and opportunities for health care providers, educators, and researchers. With the increased ability for individuals or families to travel globally, comes the potential spread of diseases and/or infections. Human rights, cultural diversity, and cultural sensitivity considerations will figure prominently in emerging global health issues. Many diseases are no longer isolated to a singular community or, country. Diseases such as Zika, Ebola virus, and Human Immunodeficiency Virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV), are found globally. Bioterrorism, and terrorism are growing concerns of every country. The resulting impact on health can be tremendous for both individuals and entire communities. It is important that the masters prepared registered nurse is aware of global trends and directions for health promotion and disease prevention.
