element of surprise
TOPIC 1: Discuss the concept of responsibility as it relates to two of our texts. How do you define this term? How might it relate to the idea of obligation? In what way do the characters deny or take responsibility? What sorts of obligations do they feel? Why is it relevant to think about the stories in these terms?
TOPIC 2: Consider the element of surprise in the two texts. How are these two text surprising or off-putting? Are they surprising in their plot twists? In their narrative styles? Can you define surprise? Why is it helpful to think of these stories in these terms?
You can choose either topic 1 or topic 2.
The essay must include an intro, body paragraphs and a conclusion.
In the intro, there should be background summary of some of the characters and scenes that you will be discussing about, but do not go into too much detail. Then at the end of the introduction there should be a thesis statement stating an argument about the two books that you will be arguing about. (There must be an argument. This essay is not an essay to summarize the book.)
In the body paragraphs there should be a topic sentence stating one of the points that you are arguing about. Then you will have to analyze your point. (There should be multiple points)
In the conclusion, you should restate your thesis statement and summarize your main points.
I have read both these books and there are many things to talk about. Both books have to be fully read to do this essay. The essay must be 6 pages, please do not start the essay from the middle of the page.
