Actually what I am supposed to do is come up with all the transportation cost break downs that are in theory and then make a detailed questionnaire and based on that ask the logistics managers of continental what is our current scenario and are there any chances of improvement.

my deadline is to sum up my thesis is by mid of february and keeping that in mind I would need an initial structure of the dissertation with a draft of questionnaire and with a compelling table of content (as what I had was almost copied from Internet) by 1st week of january. If you think this thesis is not based on only qualitative research then I would appreciate a change of title too.

Regarding the companies data I don’t exactly know the kind of questions I should ask, so if you can provide me list of questions I can provide you all the data.

18:28:45 Thanks Justus for the questionnaire. I appreciate your work. But as I discussed it with my department the reviews were not satisfactory. All the questions which you wrote are correct and descriptive but for e.g. there are questions regarding the congestions (i.e. roadblocks and traffic). My topic is regarding the analysis of operational/cost factors for transportation that can be influenced as a shipper (relating to warehousing and distribution operations) and if we talk about congestion it cannot be influenced by us. So the questionnaire has to be focused basically on indirect cost.
Justus can you please first prepare me an elaborative outline (as we discussed before) for this project based on the materials provided. And I do require a ppt for the same to present it to my university.
What I first expect is a clear distinguish between the fixed, variable, direct and indirect cost of the road freight and short sea freight transportation. And then pin pointing potential factors that can be influenced by the shipper (for e.g. any distribution changes in warehouses) in the transportation cost and ask the opinions to our service providers in form of a questionnaire or an interview.
Now as a shipper (and I being in warehousing and distribution dept.) there are only certain factors that can be influenced from our side (Possibly the indirect cost of transportation).
Because if we talk about fuel or maintenance cost of the transportation then that can’t be influenced by us being a shipper. So I would require more questions based on for e.g. stand-up equipments in warehouse, pre-ordering time, etc…
